International Shipping in a Heartbeat

Aseptika Limited is an innovative healthcare company that develops an integrated suite of self-monitoring devices and services. Incorporating sensors and monitors the systems currently focus on respiratory and cardiovascular disease. 

The relationship began with contact between Matthew Leek, Business Development Manager at Aramex and Kevin Auton, the Managing Director of Aseptika. The client won an incredible £560,000 order with the digital arm of the health service called NHSX and this project was crucial in delivering blood pressure monitors to patients with hypertension (high blood pressure) for their use at home.

A Challenge to Get Blood Pressure Rising 

To deliver on this order, the client needed to deliver 30,000 blood pressure monitors to the NHS in just 8 days! As the monitors are manufactured in China, they needed to be imported to the UK, travelling nearly 6,000 miles. If that wasn’t enough of a challenge, there were 3 major barriers that we had to overcome, including;

• Peak Season – This project took place just at the end of the Chinese New Year, so there was already a huge amount of backlog at ports and airports of goods that were not shipped during the celebrations. 

• Covid-19 Ramifications – During this time, it still remained very limited services for flights as all non-essential travel was not permitted. 

• Rainy Season – Due to the weather in the region at that time of year, we had to scale down to transit route to ensure the 56 pallets were never exposed to the elements. 

For this project, time was everything. The client could not afford for goods to be delivered late, as it could jeopardise delivery to patients in urgent need.

We Don’t Miss a Beat 

The client had spoken to other logistics providers previously, but none had been able to guarantee delivery on time and couldn’t move the shipment all in one go. Our specialist Matthew worked with the client to deliver a bespoke solution that made time a priority.

He proposed a part charter solution from Guangzhou airport to arrive at Heathrow, UK. The route was planned with speed in mind and worked with local partners. Guangzhou was specifically chosen due to its proximity to where loading will take place, providing the shortest distance for delivery. Alongside this, our experienced custom teams based in China and London, confirmed all paperwork was correct to avoid any hold-ups at borders, as this charter meant there was no backup option available. 

Throughout the project, the operations team was consistently monitoring critical points in the delivery to ensure the devices were still going to make it on time. They kept the client consistently updated (even out of hours), so that they had peace of mind.  

Even with the odds stacked up against us, our team was able to deliver the blood pressure monitors a day ahead of schedule! Due to the level of service provided, there are already new projects in the pipeline.
